Hey all, I've been doing some thinking and I was thinking it may make sense to reduce the MLB Prospect Draft to 4 rounds going forward. Because MLB players have a slower maturation process, that minor league system tends to stay fuller than NFL, NBA, and NHL (particularly the former two). Most teams have now filled or nearly filled their MiLB rosters, so many of the notable prospects are already owned and new draftees often require existing players to be released. Wanted to get this idea out there before any trades of 2020 picks are made.
Anyone have any thoughts one way or another?

I’m a fan of that, or expanding our MiLB roster sizes to like 20-25

As baseball has so many levels of minor leagues which creates so many extra players, l think I’d rather see an extra 5 MiLB spots than cut back a round. But either way is fine with me.

We could go less rounds, but I also feel like we should add more MiLB spots. I almost had to cut players I drafted last year and I only had 3 draft picks this draft. If you draft a high school or international player you're going to need to keep him for a while

I'm in agreement with the extra slots. I had to drop someone (not that I minded because he was a total flop), and that's even after I promoted 4 players to my Major League roster.

I think adding the extra slots solves the problem or at least try it for a year. Add one slot this year and then each year add one more slot pet year until we get to 20 slots. 2020 16 slots 2021 17 slot 2022 18 slots 2023 19 slots 2024 20 slots (stop adding)

I'd hate to see us drop a round in the prospect draft. The pool is so deep, players drafted in the 5th round are often just as likely to make a long-term impact as those drafted a round or two earlier. I guess I'd be ok with increasing the number of minor league slots, but not sure that's essential. Yes, most teams are carrying a full minors roster, but I'm ok with being forced to release a couple now and then to make room for new picks. And nothing wrong with some of those guys becoming productive MLBers and getting picked up as FAs down the road.

Agree...with Jimmy. Forcing managers to drop and/or trade (promotes activity) a prospect to make room for another one is not a bad thing.

I agree with more slots in both MLB and NHL. NFL & NBA players generally start playing the year they're drafted unless they're a QB or get injured.
I would also like to discuss the parameters under which a player is forced to be called up in 4Sport. Its one thing for a player to have exceeded their rookie minimums. Its another thing to be considered a "fantasy relevant" player.

So I wanted to circle back on this, and it appears the primary sentiment is to add some more MiLB roster spots. Based on the number of players on MiLB rosters and the number of draft picks each year, I believe we do need to add some more slots. Starting with the 2020 MLB Prospect Draft, the 4-Sport MiLB maximum roster size will be expanded to 18 players. With the 2021 MLB Prospect draft that roster will be expanded again to 20 players, where it will stay for the foreseeable future. The two-year increase will ensure that some teams will still have to make some roster decisions regarding prospects before/during the draft, but will alleviate having to drop as many players as we have seen recently.
If you have any questions or concerns let me know

I also think NHL could do with being upped, maybe to 8?
