It was three years ago that we acquired the Patriots' franchise and moved the team from Michigan to Washington, D.C. At that time, we promised the fans of this city that we would immediately be competitive in baseball, but that it would likely take two full seasons to create a competitive franchise across the board. The state of the franchise was not strong.
But as we write this today, we can safely say that we have confidently delivered on our promise - and the best is still ahead.
On the third anniversary of our ownership, we celebrate the franchise's first MLB championship, after having been a playoff squad each season leading up to that championship, and our second historical NFL championship. Those two, in back-to-back seasons, match the total number of championships the franchise had won up to that point. Just as exciting is the talent we've collected and our standing in both basketball and hockey. We are competitive, and while the future is always a one injury or poor performance from slipping away, we believe the city has four athletic teams to be excited about.
Our pledge remains - we will make strong efforts to have competitive teams each sports season, realizing that even the best franchises have occasional backslides. Our goal is to pursue the playoffs annually and to build a strong enough team to win. That remains our pledge as we prepare to begin year four.
We love the support from the city and look forward to our continued success in the seasons ahead!
