I've been thinking, and with our move to Fantrax the whole "trophies" idea has pretty much died as a basis for league scoring. I've also been trying to think up an updated scoring system for our overall league standings, as I'm not sure the current system quite captures a franchise's performance all the time. Here's an idea I've come up with:
Playoff Performance
Playoff Champion - 10 points
Playoff Runner Up - 8 points
Playoff 3rd Place - 5 points
Playoff 4th Place - 2 points
Playoff 5th & 6th place - 1 point
Regular Season Performance
Best Regular Season Record - 8 points
2nd Place Regular Season - 7 points
3rd Place Regular Season - 6 points
4th Place Regular Season - 5 points
5th Place Regular Season - 4 points
6th Place Regular Season - 3 points
7th & 8th Place Regular Season - 2 points
9th & 10th Place Regular Season - 1 point
11th & 12th Place Regular Season - 0 points
Statistical Performance
MLB, NHL, NBA Regular Season Best in Stat - 2 points (ex: R, HR, RBI, Goals, Assists, Rebounds)
MLB, NHL, NBA Regular Season 2nd in Stat - 1 point
NFL Regular Season Most Total Points - 3 points
NFL Regular Season 2nd Most Total Points - 2 points
NFL Regular Season 3rd Most Total Points - 1 point
NFL Regular Season Most Offensive, IDP, D/ST points (separate categories) - 2 points
NFL Regular Season 2nd Most Offensive, IDP, D/ST points - 1 points
Feel free to give any feedback you may have, as this is by no means set in stone yet. I just wanted to try to get something that would approximate the total amount of available league points as the previous system but do a better job of approximating overall team performance. It ends up being a little bit more total points available, but as long as we are all playing by the same rules it's fair. For reference, here is how the NFL scoring would break down under this system:
St. Louis Stars - 16
St. Louis Sting - 14
Dallas Desparados - 13
Clayhounds Dawgs - 11
Buffalo Wings - 9
Pensacola Pelicans - 8
Montana Grizzlies - 3
Norwich Nemesis - 2
Syracuse Warriors - 1
Las Vegas Strips - 1
New Jersey Haze - 0
Michigan State Spartans - 0
Playoff Performance
Playoff Champion - 10 points
Playoff Runner Up - 8 points
Playoff 3rd Place - 5 points
Playoff 4th Place - 2 points
Playoff 5th & 6th place - 1 point
Regular Season Performance
Best Regular Season Record - 8 points
2nd Place Regular Season - 7 points
3rd Place Regular Season - 6 points
4th Place Regular Season - 5 points
5th Place Regular Season - 4 points
6th Place Regular Season - 3 points
7th & 8th Place Regular Season - 2 points
9th & 10th Place Regular Season - 1 point
11th & 12th Place Regular Season - 0 points
