I want to start putting out a little blurb each time I update the league standings following the completion of a sport, so this be the first of that series!
2019/20 Standings
After the completion of three sports, and just a sprint of an MLB season to play, we have a pretty tight race atop the 2019/20 league standings. There are three teams currently pacing the field, with the upstart Buffalo Wings joining the mainstay Montana Grizzlies and St. Louis Sting with 30+ points. The COVID-19 timing was unfortunate for these three teams, as each had a legitimate shot to add significantly more points in the playoffs (particularly the Grizzlies, who had a top team in both NHL and NBA). Alas, they will have to settle for the points earned during regular season play and we will never know what might have been.
Our "second class" consists of Dallas, Norwich, Stars, and Syracuse all within striking distance of the top teams and hanging out with about 20 points each. The Pelicans and Dawgs work to maintain respectable rankings, but DC, Vegas, and New Jersey have fallen on hard times this season and have had very little luck getting off the ground. Perhaps baseball will salvage their season or, more likely, they can just blame the whole debacle on the Coronavirus.
All-Time Standings
We actually saw quite a bit more movement in the All-Time standings than we usually do! No surprise up top, as the Grizzlies dynasty continues to pull away from the rest of the pack after great NHL and NBA seasons. The Sting's rise to 2nd place following the NFL season was short-lived, as Syracuse immediately took that spot back. The Nemesis leapfrogged the Haze and Desperados with their phenomenal NBA performance.
The bottom half of the standings stayed relatively quie...... Wait, what is that I hear? By God, that's the Buffalo Wings' music! We all thought they were dead, languishing at the bottom of the standings, but it seems Gordie was just waiting for his time to strike. And that time was the 2019/20 NHL season where he thoroughly dominated the competition. The last place Wings (and when I say last place I mean LAST PLACE) skated by the Stars and Strips (#America) and into a tie with DC. Will Buffalo have their Wings clipped and come crashing back down to Earth, or will they continue to soar up the standings like a bat out of hell eliminating everyone in their path?
